QC Philosophy Pub Archives

Quad Cities Philosophy at the Pub (or “QC Philosophy Pub”) is a frequent, organized public philosophy event that is typically led by a community member who has interests in just about any area of philosophy. Sessions are hosted at various pubs or venues in the Quad Cities, and last about 1.5 hours each. The organizers select a venue and a discussion leader, help the discussion leader formulate some initial questions (usually three appetizer questions are posted on promotional materials in the weeks leading up to the session), and help the discussion leader prepare for their session. Attendees do not need to prepare beforehand, though if they have access to the appetizer questions, they can come with some initial thoughts of their own that might help them to feel encouraged to participate. Folks of any background are encouraged to participate, although the primary audiences for QC Philosophy Pub are intellectually curious non-academics. Many of our sessions have been hosted at Rozz-Tox (Rock Island), especially in recent years; other sites include Mac’s Tavern (Davenport), Brew (Village of East Davenport), Zeke’s (Davenport), 11th St. Precinct (Village of East Davenport), and Blue Cat Pub (Rock Island).

The QC Philosophy Pub series was started in 2015 by Tanya Randle and John Hagar (St. Ambrose University). The first session was 5 October 2015 at the Blue Cat Pub in Rock Island. I joined the group in 2018, and later helped with organizing. Tadd Ruetenik (SAU), who was a regular attendee and discussion leader, took over organizational responsibilities in 2023 – 2024, and I took over organizational responsibilities from 2024 – 2026.

Below are some admittedly incomplete archives from past sessions, including promotional materials, photo galleries, and some handouts/notes. If you have any items (especially copies of notes) from past sessions that are not included here and you would like them added to the archive, please email me.
